Existential Bread is a Canadian webcomic created by Ottawa-based cartoonist Travis Gobeil. in 2022. It follows four characters as they navigate life together on a small island.
The comic has always been a bit hard to pin down: part philosophical, part absurdist, part slice-of-life. Episodes tackle mindfulness, meaning, creative frustration, geese, and the occasional interdimensional cod. What started as art therapy has blossomed into a whole graphic novel project spanning multiple years.
102 Comics and Counting
What started as a lifelong dream (“I always wanted a webcomic” — Travis, since like 2000) became a committed creative project spanning over three years and 102 published strips. The first 100 comics — collected in Book I: Some Disassembly Required — culminate in a full 16-strip narrative arc, a milestone Travis is quietly proud of.
The story isn’t over. Tales of Roy, an ongoing series of standalone comic issues, picks up where the webcomic left off — with more room, more colour, and more adventure.

Existential Bread is available in print! Book I: Some Disassembly Required collects the first 100 webcomics in a paperback edition. Tales of Roy #1, the debut print issue, is available for pre-order now and includes an exclusive enamel pin. Both ship to Canada with local delivery available in the Ottawa area.
