Still probably the best comic I’ve written thus far. I think it perfectly sets up the first two characters (as yet unnamed) and gives you a small chortle. Obviously I still hadn’t figured out the style. This didn’t feel right at all to me, so I spent the next several weeks just experimenting. And failing.
A little note on failure: It’s great! It’s a finite, objective result of an effort. When it comes to art, you need to actually push yourself to failure. Break your style. Kill your darlings. It may not lead you where you ultimately go, but it helps to lock out certain options. Once you can eliminate enough creative choices, you’ll be better able to see where you really need to go.
I haaaaaated the way this came out. I knew this wasn’t how I wanted the comic to look. I needed better line art, better lettering, and So I would spend the next several weeks exploring drawing styles on my iPad…
