041: X Marks the Contempt

May 19, 2023

I’m super happy with both writing and art on this one. Yes, Kevin is a Canadian goose! In my head he sounds like a mix of Bob & Doug with a good amount of Gilbert Godfried (RIP). Or maybe just Ricky from Trailer Park Boys. The background took wayyyyyyy too long but I think it was worth it. I think if I look at the backgrounds as their own kind of art piece, it leads to better results.

The first of a few ‘interlude’ comics, but unfortunately the last fully-written comic as of now! I’ve hit the creative block hard, too. I may take a week to just come up with some new/better/different ideas, and see if I can work out a few random one-off comics to just get me through this little impasse.

Creative blocks happen. You can hammer away at them until they crack, or take some time away to get some perspective and new ideas. You can go through a problem or around it. Sometimes one good idea is all you need to break on through and get the creativity flowing again. I let ideas noodle around in my brain for weeks and even months until I’m ready to make decisions. You don’t always have the time, but with a personal side-project like this you have all the time you need.

Don’t impose deadlines on something that’s supposed to be purely for creative output. If you get blocked, take some time away.
