085: Stair-ing Contest

I’m always trying to do something new and challenging with most comics. A weird layout, or some different angle, or some obscure technique I’ve barely tried. In this case I tried foreshortening, but alas it just never works out the way I want. I try the volumetric sketching technique, but by the time I add the final details, it looks like a giant hand on a stubby arm, not a regular arm shooting towards the viewer.
Those stairs are also not right, but I don’t care. I’m not sure what I’m missing in terms of shading or technique, but they definitely look like they’re going ‘up’ and not ‘down’. Oh well. Remember, we can’t win them all. Sometimes we don’t even get on base! It’s published and out there and I think it’s as good as I wanted it to be. That’s a win!
